Description
The Gentle One. Pumpkin, Raisin, Warm Spice. A Rare Recipe You Won’t Find on a Supermarket Shelf.
Homemade Pumpkin & Raisin Chutney from Sri Lanka — one of the rarest recipes in the Goodfolks range and one of the most surprising. Pumpkin gives it a soft, earthy sweetness. Raisins add a fruity depth that builds slowly. Chilli, garlic, and ginger bring warmth without heat. The result is the gentlest, most approachable chutney in the collection — the one that converts people who think they don’t like chutney. Made by a collective of women, to a traditional recipe, in small batches. No artificial flavours, no chemicals, no preservatives beyond the sugar that has always been the natural preservative in Sri Lankan chutney-making.

Who Is It For?
Those who want something genuinely unusual — a chutney with a flavour profile most people won’t have encountered before. The approachable entry point into the Goodfolks chutney range, particularly for those who find the bolder Date & Lime or Tomato varieties too sharp. Also the most interesting of the four for pairing with mild cheeses, white meats, and grain-based dishes where a gentle sweet-spiced note works better than acidity.
How to Use
-
-
- Serve alongside soft cheeses, goat’s cheese, or cream cheese — the gentle sweetness is a natural pairing
- Spoon over roasted pumpkin, sweet potato, or root vegetable dishes
- Use as a condiment alongside grilled white meat or fish
- Add a spoonful to a grain bowl or salad for a warm, spiced sweetness
- Shelf life is 6 months — shorter than the other varieties due to the pumpkin’s moisture content. Refrigerate before opening. Keep refrigerated once opened. Use a clean, dry spoon.

Product FAQs
- What does it taste like? Gently sweet and warmly spiced — earthy pumpkin, fruity raisin, with a mild chilli warmth. The least sharp of the four varieties.
- Why is the shelf life shorter than the others? Pumpkin has a higher moisture content than dates, tomato, or beetroot — which naturally shortens the shelf life even with sugar as a preservative. Consume within 6 months of purchase.
- Is this a common Sri Lankan recipe? Less common than tomato or date chutney — which is precisely why Goodfolks makes it. These are the recipes that were disappearing from Sri Lankan kitchens.
- Is supply guaranteed year-round? No — pumpkin is seasonal and production is small batch. Availability varies.
Allergy Info & Warnings
Contains raisins (dried grapes), garlic, chilli, and vinegar. Suitable for vegans. Gluten-free. Refrigerate after opening. Not suitable for those with sulphite sensitivity (vinegar, raisins).
Impact
Goodfolks works with a collective of women who make this chutney at home using traditional recipes that were at risk of being lost entirely. Every jar sold supports their household income directly and keeps a piece of Sri Lankan food culture alive.
