Goodfolks is a Sri Lankan artisan food brand built on a simple but radical idea: that the people who grow our food should be the ones who benefit most from it.
We source from small-scale farmers and home gardens across Sri Lanka — producers who often grow ingredients of extraordinary quality, in ways that protect biodiversity and the natural ecosystem, but who have no pathway into the mainstream market.
The Home Garden Collection is where that mission lives. Every product in this collection comes directly from a small farmer or home garden. No certifications. No factory. Just real food, real provenance, and a direct line from the farm to your table.
WHO ARE WE
Goodfolks Home Garden Collection is a distinct extension of Goodfolks — same founders, same conviction, but a different way of working.
Where the Organic Collection is built on standards, certification, and consistency, the Home Garden Collection is built on relationship — between farmer and land, between neighbour and neighbour, between generations. It’s a small collective, drawing on advertising, farming, design, and years spent walking Kandyan home gardens and listening to the people who tend them.
What unites this work is a discomfort with how disconnected food has become from the people who grow it — and a quiet conviction that the fix isn’t a new system, but a return to an old one.
This collective grew, in part, out of necessity — a recognition that healing, for land and for people, rarely happens alone. The Home Garden Collection is what happens when that recognition becomes a way of working.
Why We Started
Sri Lanka’s agricultural infrastructure is built for scale. Organic certifications, export approvals, factory standards — these exist to serve large operations. They have their place. But they leave out an entire world of small-scale farmers and home gardens who, without the resources to certify, are effectively locked out of the market.
This isn’t a small gap. It’s the majority of Sri Lanka’s agricultural producers.
Many of these farms grow ingredients that are more biodiverse, more naturally cultivated, and more environmentally sound than anything a certified organic operation produces. But without the right infrastructure connecting them to buyers who understand and value this, their harvest goes unrecognised — and underpriced.
We started Goodfolks to build that infrastructure.
Brand Values
Provenance over certification. We trace every product to the farm and the person who grew it. That story matters more to us than any stamp of approval.
Fair value for real work. The farmer who tends a home garden through drought and flood deserves a price that reflects that. We build our pricing around that principle.
Biodiversity as a measure of quality. Small farms and home gardens are among Sri Lanka’s most important ecosystems. Supporting them is not charity — it is the most intelligent way to source food.
Honesty in every direction. To our farmers, our buyers, and ourselves. If we cannot trace it, we do not sell it.
Brand Purpose & Message
There are buyers who need certifications to make their decision. We respect that — and our Organic Collection serves them.
But there is another kind of buyer: someone who wants to support a real farmer. Someone who understands that the most honest food in Sri Lanka often comes from a home garden with no label, no certification, and no marketing — just soil, care, and generations of knowledge.

Every purchase is a direct economic act. It puts fair value into the hands of the farmer who grew it. It keeps small-scale agriculture viable. And it keeps the ingredients, the knowledge, and the land itself from disappearing.

Brand IMPACT
- Making the invisible visible. Thousands of Sri Lankan small-scale farmers and home garden cultivators produce ingredients of extraordinary quality — and have no market to sell them into. We are building that market.
- Fair value, not charity. This is a supply chain intervention, not a social programme. Farmers are paid what their harvest is genuinely worth. Buyers get direct provenance. No middlemen extracting the margin in between.
- Resetting what we grow — and why. What gets bought determines what gets grown. By creating demand for home garden and small-farm produce, we are quietly shifting agricultural practice away from monoculture dependency and toward the biodiversity that Sri Lanka’s land actually supports.
- Ancient wisdom as competitive advantage. Crop rotation, companion planting, seed-saving, rain-fed cultivation — practices dismissed as unscalable by industrial standards are, in fact, more ecologically precise, more resilient, and more climate-intelligent than anything a certification body has yet formalised.
- Redrawing the infrastructure. Farm to table is not a marketing line here. It is a functioning system — traceable, fairly priced, and built to connect growers directly to the consumers who value what they grow.
- Agriculture in service of the ecosystem, not against it. Every purchase in this collection supports a form of farming that protects biodiversity, preserves traditional knowledge, and moves — however incrementally — against the climate damage that extractive agriculture has caused.
